Speaking with an accent

Hello my friends.

I speak with an accent. Of course, I do. I am Russian and do not have linguistic education or specific talent. My husband tells me, “If you get rid of your accent you will loose your charm”.

I try hard to sound right but often get the questions as “What nationality are you? Or where are you originally from?”. It’s quite normal in my situation.

I work at the library (little branch). I like my job a lot. It is challenging and interesting. I have been working there since January 2016. I thought that people – visitors to the library, we call them patrons, got used to me and my accent. I was wrong…I don’t stop getting these questions..

I am not upset, I am not frustrated. It is how it is. I try to learn, listen to people attentive, read a lot (in English). I even had an idea to hire a tutor.  The tutor said to me, that my accent makes me who I am, and unique. Plus, do you know how much it cost? $40 per hour! I abandoned this idea.

And here I am, speaking with my accent, natural and unique. And if people do not lie, they like my accent and me.

Do you speak the language other than your native? Do you speak with the accent? What language would you like to learn?
